Solar month vs Moon rasi. The Tamil / Kerala solar month
(Chithirai, Karthigai, Vrischikam, etc.) is named after the
Sun's rashi at your birth - NOT your Moon rasi. Someone
born on 30 November belongs to Karthigai (Sun in Vrishchika),
even if their Moon rasi is Simha. Pick the month whose Gregorian date range
covers your birthday.
Nakshatra vs Tithi. Most traditions identify a "star
birthday" by Nakshatra (the birth star, i.e. the Moon's lunar mansion
at birth). The North Indian Purnimanta tradition uses Tithi instead
(the lunar day). The form switches automatically based on the
tradition you pick.
Local names. When you pick Tamil / Kerala / Andhra-Telugu,
nakshatra chips show the local name with the Sanskrit name on the
second line - for example "Avittam · Dhanishta" - so you can find your
nakshatra by whichever name is familiar.
Multiple results. Some lunar combinations occur twice in a year
(typically due to an Adhika masa). The calculator lists every occurrence and
flags the adhika one; most traditions observe the date in the regular (nija) month.
